2007 Spring Lindbergh Flag Football - Tips for Referees:

  1. Read and become familiar with flag rules, they are on the www.lindberghff.com website
  2. Carry copy of flag rules in pocket
  3. Show up 20 minutes before game to help with fields, get field assignment and dressed
  4. Speak clearly to coach and players when making a call
  5. Blow the whistle loudly to call each play over; if player pulls flag, out of bounds, penalty, etc.
  6. If a penalty discuss the infraction with the player so they can learn from the mistake
  7. Call out and hold up fingers to represent the down coming
  8. Give coaches time remaining at the following minutes remaining:  12:30, 6:00, 3:00, 1:00, last play
  9. Hold up ball with one hand and blow whistle at half and end of game
  10. If one referee stand on the line of scrimmage (LOS) and move with the ball, if two referees one ref is on LOS watching the offense and other referee is on opposite side watching the defense.
  11. For each down place the ball at LOS and walk off 7 yards for defensive rusher and blow whistle to indicate time is starting for play to resume, 30 secs for all but K-2nd they have 45 secs
  12. If timeout is called, ask the coach which timeout length they want, either 30 sec or 1 min and add that time on to the time for half to end.  For example:  If 12:00 is on clock and coach calls for 30 sec timeout, half will be over at 12:30 instead of 12:00.  The games have running clocks.
  13. You are in charge of your game, get it started on time and take charge, if you have a coach, player or fan that is not cooperative stop the game and ask them to leave the field and come see the field representative on duty
  14. Check all the kids flags and make sure they have their shirts tucked in.
  15. Call out to both teams Pass/Run zones when at the mid-field.
